Farmer Awareness Workshop – Rajanganaya

Revolution Rooted In The Earth

On 20th September 2025, Biogenic Soil Sense joined hands with the Sewa Lanka Foundation to conduct a farmer awareness workshop in Rajanganaya, one of Sri Lanka’s most productive agricultural regions.

The program brought together leaders from several farmer organizations, including the Saraketha Farmer Society, along with active cultivators from the area. The session focused on empowering farmers with knowledge and tools for data-driven soil management.

Highlights of the Workshop
• Understanding Soil Organic Carbon (SOC):
Our Director, Dr. Thulitha Ranwala, shared insights on the crucial role of SOC in agriculture. He emphasized how soil organic carbon contributes to soil fertility, water retention, microbial activity, and climate resilience.
• Practical Demonstrations:
Farmers were introduced to the AgroCares soil scanner, which provides a simple, rapid, and reliable way to measure SOC and other nutrients in the field. This technology allows farmers to understand their soil’s true condition and make informed decisions on fertilizer use.
• Farmer Engagement:
The discussion sessions were highly interactive, with farmers expressing both their challenges and hopes. Many recognized that knowing soil carbon and nutrient levels could help them reduce excessive fertilizer use while maintaining productivity.

Why This Matters for Rajanganaya

Rajanganaya is home to a large irrigation scheme and is a vital hub for paddy and other crops. Ensuring soil health in this region is essential for national food security. By introducing Total Soil Nutrition Testing and SOC measurement, Biogenic Soil Sense aims to support farmers in adopting more sustainable, climate-smart practices that benefit both livelihoods and the environment.

At Biogenic Soil Sense, we remain committed to bridging technology and farmer knowledge—helping communities move toward precision agriculture that saves costs, protects the soil, and sustains productivity for future generations.
