Biogenic Soil Sense Registered as Sri Lanka’s First Private Promoter of the FAO–GSP Soil Doctors Programme

Biogenic Soil Sense (Pvt.) Ltd. is proud to announce that we have been officially registered as the first-ever private sector promoter in Sri Lanka of the FAO–Global Soil Partnership (GSP) Soil Doctors Programme.

This recognition marks a historic milestone for Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector, reflecting a new model where responsible private innovation works hand in hand with global public institutions to protect and restore soil health.

About the FAO–GSP Soil Doctors Programme

The Soil Doctors Programme, developed under the Global Soil Partnership of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), is a globally recognized initiative aimed at:
• Improving farmers’ understanding of soil health
• Promoting sustainable soil management practices
• Translating soil science into practical, field-level action

The programme emphasizes farmer-centered learning, demonstration plots, and evidence-based soil management, traditionally implemented through public extension and research institutions.

A First for Sri Lanka’s Private Sector

Our registration as the first private promoter in Sri Lanka represents a significant step forward. It demonstrates FAO–GSP’s confidence in Biogenic Soil Sense to responsibly support soil health education while maintaining scientific integrity and alignment with global standards.

This role allows us to complement national extension systems by integrating:
• Modern soil diagnostics
• Rapid field-based soil testing
• Locally calibrated soil intelligence
into farmer education and awareness programmes.

Why This Matters for Sri Lankan Agriculture

Sri Lankan farmers face increasing challenges, including:
• Rising fertilizer costs
• Soil degradation and nutrient imbalance
• Climate variability and production risks

Through the Soil Doctors Programme, combined with Total Soil Nutrition Testing and soil organic carbon assessment, we aim to:
• Encourage farmers to understand their soil before applying inputs
• Reduce unnecessary fertilizer use
• Improve productivity while protecting long-term soil fertility
• Support national goals on food security and climate-smart agriculture

Our Commitment as a Soil Doctors Promoter

As a registered promoter of the FAO–GSP Soil Doctors Programme, Biogenic Soil Sense is committed to:
• Conducting farmer awareness and capacity-building programmes
• Supporting demonstration-based and evidence-driven learning
• Aligning soil testing services with FAO soil health principles
• Collaborating with government institutions, researchers, and farming communities

We view soil not merely as a production medium, but as a living national resource that must be protected, restored, and managed responsibly.

Looking Ahead

This recognition strengthens our resolve to contribute meaningfully to both national and global soil health agendas. By combining FAO-backed principles with advanced soil diagnostics and Sri Lanka–specific calibration, we aim to help farmers transition toward data-driven, climate-resilient, and sustainable agriculture.

At Biogenic Soil Sense, we believe that empowering farmers with knowledge is the foundation for protecting soils—for today and for generations to come.
