Precision Soil Nutrient Analysis and Fertilizer Advisory for a 36-Acre Coconut Plantation in Bingiriya
On 18 June 2026, the Biogenic Soil Sense team successfully completed a comprehensive on-field soil nutrient analysis and fertilizer advisory program for a 36-acre coconut plantation in Bingiriya.
To accurately capture field variability, the estate was divided into four representative soil management zones. Soil samples were collected from each zone and analyzed using Biogenic Soil Sense’s rapid nutrient diagnostic technology, allowing field-level interpretation and immediate advisory support.
Unlike conventional soil testing approaches that provide only a limited number of parameters, Biogenic Soil Sense assessed 16 key soil fertility and soil health parameters, including:
• pH (water)
• Total Nitrogen
• Total Phosphorus
• Total Zinc
• Total Aluminium
• Total Iron
• Available Phosphorus (M3)
• Clay Content
• Effective Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC)
• Exchangeable Calcium
• Exchangeable Potassium
• Exchangeable Magnesium
• Organic Matter
• Soil Moisture
• Potentially Mineralizable Nitrogen
• Soil Density
This comprehensive analysis enabled the development of a customized fertilizer and nutrient management plan tailored to each soil zone within the plantation.

The field program was attended by Dr. Thulitha Ranwala (Founder), Mr. Isuru Nirmana (Co-Founder), Mr. Tharinda (Agronomist), and the Biogenic Soil Sense scanning team. Following analysis, the plantation management received site-specific recommendations designed to improve nutrient use efficiency, optimize fertilizer investment, enhance coconut productivity, and maintain long-term soil health.
A highlight of the visit was the positive feedback received from plantation owner Mr. Cryshabtha Jayawardhana, who appreciated the speed, scientific rigor, and practical value of the service.
This project demonstrates how precision agriculture can transform plantation management by moving beyond generalized fertilizer programs and toward data-driven decisions based on actual soil conditions.
Biogenic Soil Sense continues to support farmers and plantation owners across Sri Lanka with advanced soil intelligence solutions, helping them improve productivity while protecting one of their most valuable assets—the soil beneath their feet.

What makes this assessment different?
We evaluated 16 soil fertility and soil health parameters including pH, organic matter, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, CEC, soil moisture, soil density and other critical indicators that influence crop performance.
The result: a customized fertilizer recommendation for each soil zone within the plantation, based on actual field conditions rather than generalized recommendations.
