Advancing Soil Intelligence for Sri Lankan Tea

Under the planning and scientific guidance of the Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka (TRI) and its soil science experts, the Tea Soil Series Calibration Programme has commenced with the Maskeliya Soil Series.

The programme involves systematic field selection and representative soil sampling from tea-growing areas, followed by sample preparation, NIR-based soil scanning, soil characterization, and collection of calibration and validation data.

Biogenic Soil Sense is supporting the programme through NIR technology and technical implementation, working closely with TRI to strengthen the application of rapid soil analysis for Sri Lankan tea-growing conditions.

The objective is to develop and strengthen soil-series-specific NIR calibration models, improving the reliability and applicability of rapid on-field soil testing and supporting more informed soil and nutrient management in the tea sector.
