Biogenic Soil Sense successfully completed a comprehensive soil nutrient testing and GPS-based soil intelligence project covering approximately 20 acres at Lihiniyagala Estate, Daraniyagala.

The project was carried out within the estate’s tea-growing environment to assess the soil fertility and nutrient status of different areas and generate data to support more informed soil and nutrient management decisions.

Unlike conventional soil assessment approaches that provide limited information from individual sampling locations, this project incorporated systematic field sampling and GPS-based location recording, allowing soil information to be associated with specific areas of the estate.

Project Activities

The Biogenic Soil Sense technical team carried out:

GPS-based soil sampling and location recording
Representative soil sample collection across the estate
Soil sample preparation
Rapid soil analysis using advanced NIR spectroscopy technology
Assessment of key soil fertility and soil health parameters
Digital recording of sampling locations
Nutrient requirement assessment
Preparation of soil analysis reports and management recommendations

The project included field sampling under challenging estate conditions, with the technical team working across the sloping tea-growing terrain to obtain representative soil samples from designated sampling locations.

The GPS-based sampling approach provides an important foundation for developing a spatial understanding of soil variability, helping estate managers move towards more data-driven and site-specific nutrient management.
